PARK WITH A VIEW
Clyde View Park, on the banks of the Clyde, will open next month as part of a £500 million expansion of Braehead. The newly named park covers seven acres and links Braehead with the planned Renfrew Riverside development, which will have more than 2,000 homes on 185 acres of waterfront land.
NEW PARK AND BOULEVARD A MILESTONE FOR RENFREW
The regeneration of the Clyde has taken a major step forward with completion of a £10m private investment in public facilities.
The regeneration between Braehead and Renfrew advanced with the inauguration of a seven-acre public park and the opening of Kings Inch Rd as a new four lane boulevard connecting Renfrew Town centre, the Renfrew Ferry and Braehead shopping centre.
Clyde View Park is the first new park to be built in the West of Scotland for many years. It has been designed to encourage natural wildlife, flora and fauna, including an otter's holt to help the laying up of otters in the Clyde.
Extending to one kilometre in length, Kings Inch Rd has been transformed from a two lane local access road into a new four lane boulevard connecting Braehead with the Renfrew Ferry. In addition to improving traffic management, the new road will play a key role servicing new offices, Xscape Braehead and nearly 2000 new homes.
As well as funding Clyde View Park, Capital Shopping Centres has made a contribution to the programme of investment made with its partners, Park Lane and Clydeport in the regeneration. The announcement marks a milestone in the programme to regenerate 185-acres of brownfield land on the Clyde.
Deputy Minister for Enterprise Allan Wilson said: "With Braehead and Renfrew Riverside, we now have two examples of the most outstanding riverside regeneration projects in Europe."
Councillor Jim Harkins, Leader of Renfrewshire Council said: "Braehead is widely recognised as an example of mixed-use regeneration, of which the new park is a welcome addition and enhances facilities for the local community."
